Do you accept insurance?

Yes, I accept Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO insurance plans. I encourage clients to call their insurance plan and verify benefit coverage prior to their appointment. If a claim is denied due to no benefit coverage, my self-pay rate of $125 will apply for the session.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask that you provide me with a 24-hour notice. If you miss a session without canceling, or cancel with less than 24-hour notice, you will be expected to pay the full session fee. No Showing" a session will result in a full session charge. Insurance will not cover cancellation fees. After two missed appointments we will discuss whether this is the right time for therapy and/or if referrals are appropriate.

Payment is due at each session.

What can I expect at the first appointment?

The first appointment is designed to gather information, address any questions you may have and discuss goals for our time together.  I will provide paperwork for you to complete in advance. The first session will also give you the opportunity to get a sense of your level of comfort with me before we get more involved in the therapy process. At the end of the session, I will suggest how we may be able to work towards your goals.

We will agree upon a frequency of treatment at our first session and revise this as needed.

How should I introduce counseling to my child?

Young Children: Prior to the first appointment, explain to your child in an age appropriate manner that you are going to meet with someone who talks to children to help them problem solve and make them feel better. Also, mention that they will have their own time with me to talk and play without mom/dad present.

For Older Children/Teens: Prior to the first appointment, explain that meeting with me is nothing that can be forced. It’s an opportunity for them to have someone outside of their family and friends to confide in and process difficulties. Therapy is a judgement free and safe space. Many children and teens are initially nervous or uneasy but find it helpful to talk in therapy and end up looking forward to sessions. People do not have to have a diagnosis or be “crazy” to come to therapy. Nobody has to share the fact that they are attending therapy unless they choose to.
